Best bun Bo hue in Houston! I have been here for 2 days in the rolls.. but still like to come back tomorrow...!
Great new(ish) BBH spot in Houston that I love a lot! Just quality bbh that is flavorful and aromatic. It's not overwhelmingly strong (definitely a lighter broth in comparison to other spots). I do wish I could taste the shrimp taste/lemongrass more. The noodles have a great texture, though they don't give lots of it (meat portion is great though). Overall, a small fills me pretty well! Waitlist consists of a paper outside where you write your name down. Generally a 10-30 min wait. Service is very quick once you get sat.
The Bún Bò Huế came out steaming hot, with a rich, aromatic broth that had the perfect balance of spicy, savory, and slightly sour notes. I would have liked to have a bit more noodles in the bowl without the extra charges. The restaurant itself had a clean, cozy atmosphere, and the service was friendly.
Another great Vietnamese BBH, clean restaurant inside and when I ordered Togo, they only have 1 Size. Came out to $16 with tax. Is it worth $16? I would say yes but borderline. The soup is amazing, flavorful, porky, very strong aromatic flavors, spicy, and you can taste the fish sauce in the broth. I love the noodles, they are bouncy, thicker than the traditional noodles, and each bite is a more fuller bite. The leaves, cilantro, onions, banana blossom, mint leaves, water spinach, love how the restaurant gives you a lot. The slices of meat are great, the pork bone with the fat is nice, overall great BBH. For $16, I definitely want more than 2 micro pieces of pork blood cubes. That's the best part of BBH, it needs more and 1 more slice of pork loaf or aka cha lua, then it's more value.
GET the Bun Bo NAM!!!! It is loaded with all my fav cuts of meat like filet, flank, ?brisket? (I think) and tendons. I don't like the traditional bun bo hue with the pork hocks and blood cakes, so I get the bun bo NAM which has aaalllll the good meat. I am a huge Bun Bo fan, I can eat bun Bo everyday. With that being said, there isn't one bun Bo place in Houston that is up to my expectations. I always have to cook my own bun Bo, until Vua bun Bo opened a location in Houston. I just LOVE the meat they offer! I don't care how good your bun Bo is, but u can't beat them on the meat quality and cuts! I can cook a mean bowl of bun Bo, but I cannot come close to the way their meat tastes, and meat is life for me. The beef ribs just melt in your mouth!! Even their veggies are finely shredded to perfection. I don't normally eat a lot of veggies bcuz it doesn't get cooked right in the bowl, but I will eat all the veggies here. They are very busy but very fast and efficient. This has became our regular stop every time we are in china town.
We went on a week day and were seated immediately. The food came out pretty quickly within 5 minutes. I brought my mom and we shared the bun bo hue and the bo kho. We tried going to this spot a few times before but it just recently opened and the lines were still pretty long. We went on 8/27/24, but most likely there aren't those crazy long lines anymore. We were told by a friend that their bun bo hue had really good cha lua (pork sausage) in it and the portions were very big. The portion was a pretty good size when we went there, but my mom said the lemon grass taste wasn't too strong. I told my friend this and she said the day she went the broth had a very strong lemon grass flavor, so I guess it was just the batch we had. The cha lua was good, but it wasn't the same one they had during their grand opening (one they had before was like a scoop but the one we had was a slice instead). All the meat for the bun bo hue, beef rib, and bo kho was very tender.
I visited this newish place one Saturday, which is noted for their spicy soup. It's not my favorite Vietnamese dish, but I do eat it from time to time. They have about 9 different soups to choose from on the menu. One interesting tid bit about this place, whether good or bad, they do close early....at 5pm currently. They also have fresh chili paste to place in your soup, unlike some other places. Outside, there are 3 benches and a stand with a notepad to write down your name for when it gets busy. The wait was not bad, and it took us about 10 mins to get a table for 6. I ordered fresh lemonade and a small bun bo hue. I would say the lemonade was decent but pretty small and mostly ice. For the price, I wouldn't order this again. The bun bo hue was the perfect size that day for me and I could tell the noodles were better than others I have previously tried. I could not tell much difference in the broth. Overall, it was a good experience. There are not many non-asian customers as to be expected at a bun bo hue restaurant, but that is fine with me.
Heard some hype online about this spot, so decided to give it a go. Came on a random weekday and the lines were out the door. Every table including the bar were filled with guests. Fortunately the wait wasn't too bad, it was about 5 - 10 minutes. I guess we just missed the rush hour at 1230. Ordered the large with everything in it. All the meats were well cooked and prep. They were super tender and properly cut. They used choice meats! Overall the broth isn't as rich and thick as other places. They seem to have a cleaner lighter broth to it. For a large it's slightly less than the competition, but just enough to get full off of. Their sate is pretty spicy and gives it a sweet tasting broth
